Flying
Here are some lovely pictures of me taking my first passenger up after
getting my private pilot's license. I got my license September 10th,
1998, so these pictures were probably taken shortly thereafter.
The aircraft I'm flying here is a Cessna 152, N94505. It's a
single-engine two-seater rental. Since then I have also been checked
out on the Cessna 172 for my instrument training, but have not yet
taken any passengers up in it. If the Cessna 172 is like driving a bus,
then the Cessna 152 is a go-cart. I didn't realize the difference
until after I had flown the 172 for a while and then went back to
the 152.
Should I put thumbnails in here instead? I have a 256 Kb/s DSL line
so I don't notice the speed...
Here are some aviation links I like:
When I can afford it, I would love to get a Velocity Aircraft
kit plane. These things have 4 seats, 1000 mile range, and cruise at
200 KIAS. Then I could really go somewhere!
An interesting study done by the University of Indiana on how long a
VFR pilot can maintain orientation in IMC conditions.
AVWeb has a weekly email newsletter that
I find interesting.
Ok, here are the pictures...
This is me checking the fuel before our flight. Notice the nice weather!
We were going on a tourist flight from JeffCo Airport (BJC) over
Longmont and Boulder, and then back to JeffCo. JeffCo is right by
where I work and only 15 miles from Boulder, which is convenient.
Of course, we needed fuel. Here's my butt and the fuel truck. I
rent the planes through a club and they're rented wet (with fuel), so
all I do is call them up on the phone or radio and they come fill it.
It's really nice!
Nice shot of Boulder, CO (where I live) from the air. We're
at about 8000 ft MSL here (2500 ft. above the ground) rougly
over Boulder Municiple Airport (1V5).
I wish I had more pictures from the air. Here we're back on the
ground after tying down the plane. Notice how much the weather
degraded in the 1.5 hours we were in the air. September in Colorado
is full of surprises for pilots.
